Where can you get the best pizza in the world? In Italy, of course. TRAVELBOOK reveals here which one it is and where exactly you can try it. We also show you the 19 best pizzas according to “Time Out” magazine.
It’s no secret that tastes vary widely. As a result, there’s a myriad of opinions on which pizza reigns supreme worldwide. Among others, the experts from “Top 50 Pizza” decide this once a year. For instance, last year, they elevated a New York pizza to the top ranks: Una Pizza Napoletana. In a more recent ranking, the editors and travel writers of Time Out magazine have chosen another pizza as the best in the world. It comes not only from the home country but also from the hometown of pizza, Naples.
Overview
This Is the Best Pizza in the World According to “Time Out”
A traditional Margherita pizza is — how could it be otherwise — the best pizza in the world. The dough, tomato sauce, and cheese masterpiece comes from Pizzeria Da Attilio in Naples’ Pignasecca district, which Time Out describes as one of the “liveliest and oldest neighborhoods in Naples.” The traditional pizza is topped with San Marzano tomatoes, fior di latte from Vico Equenese, 24-month-aged Parmesan, and fresh basil.
The pizzeria itself is now in its third generation. Since the war, in 1938, to be precise, the restaurant has been serving classic Neapolitan pizza, which is as good today as it was then. The “classic Margherita pizza, the queen of all pizzas” is served here in an intimate atmosphere in a small space and, according to Time Out, never disappoints. The high-quality ingredients come from the region’s coastal towns.
And this is what the winning pizza looks like:

The second-best pizza in the world, hailing once again from New York, isn’t quite as accessible for Germans as the top contender. However, if you’re already on your way to Naples to sample the pizza queen, consider making a detour to Rome. There, the fourth-ranked pizza in the Time Out list awaits your taste buds:
