Beauty as far as the eye can see: In many ways, we Europeans are lucky to live on such a diverse continent. The editors of “Time Out” have now put together 18 places in which Europe shows its particularly beautiful side.
From fjords and icy landscapes in the north to picturesque seascapes and mountain scenery in the center and endless beaches in the south – there are countless places in Europe that show just how beautiful this continent is. The authors of the renowned “Time Out” magazine, who are spread around the globe, have now compiled their 18 personal favorites. The selection could hardly be more diverse. TRAVELBOOK shows the complete list of the most beautiful places in Europe and presents a particularly beautiful selection of places.
Overview
Fjords and seclusion in the north
The UNESCO-listed Geirangerfjord, the picturesque towns of Stavanger and Bergen: anyone who has been there knows why the fjords of Norway are among the most beautiful places in Europe and therefore also among the absolute favorites of the authors of “Time Out”. However, the authors also mention that this idyll can only be fully enjoyed at certain times due to the numerous cruise ships that dock there.
But there is also a tip for anyone who wants to experience the original Northern Europe: the remote Westman Islands off the coast of Iceland. If you want to feel like you’re at the end of the world, this is the place for you. The journey from Reykjavík takes more than three hours by car, plus the ferry crossing. The reward is impressive cliff landscapes – and plenty of peace and quiet.
Unique atmosphere in southern metropolises
Probably the most impressive building on the list is in Seville, Spain. The medieval royal palace Alcázar (large picture above) seems to have come straight out of a fairy tale. It was unmistakably built during the Moorish period in the 11th century. With its detailed ceramic work and ornamentation, it is no wonder that it has already served as a backdrop for films and series. This includes “Game of Thrones”.
Another tip from the “Time Out” authors is also located in a popular tourist destination on the Iberian Peninsula. The Jardim do Morro in Porto is no longer a hidden gem, as it is centrally located on a hill in the middle of the city. But that is precisely what makes it one of the most beautiful places in Europe. Nowhere else is it more beautiful to watch the sky change color as the sun sets behind the Douro River.
Italy represented twice
When it comes to the most beautiful places in Europe, Italy is of course a must. The diverse country was able to place itself twice among the 18 favorites of the “Time Out” authors. The country’s particularly beautiful places include the Isla del Giglio in Tuscany and the famous “Smurf village” of Alberobello in Apulia.
One of the most beautiful places in Europe is in Germany
According to the “Time Out” editorial team, Germany is also home to one of the most beautiful places in Europe. Unsurprisingly, it is a picturesque lake. But quite unexpectedly, it was not one of the numerous world-famous lakes in southern Germany that captured the authors’ hearts – but the lake Schlachtensee just outside Berlin. Right on the doorstep of our capital, it offers the perfect destination for anyone who needs a break from Berlin’s lively “poor but sexy” culture.
