There are several reasons why a vacation is actually ideal for flirting: the stress of everyday life is far away, and the scenery is often so romantic that you want to share the beautiful moments with someone. Sometimes it remains a flirtation, sometimes it turns into a one-night stand or more: true love. A survey has now determined the chances of vacation flirtations.

A great vacation often includes not only sun, beach, and sea – but also a more or less intense flirtation, as a representative survey conducted by Media Control on behalf of tour operator L’tur shows. But what comes of the lively conversation at the beach bar, the kiss, the night together, or the vacation romance? Can a holiday fling develop into lasting love?

Two thirds (67%) of the 1,158 people between the ages of 14 and 60 surveyed said they had flirted on vacation. Almost as many (69%) said that flirting is easier for them on vacation because they are much more relaxed than in everyday life. This figure is even higher among women (73%) than men (65%).

Flirting locations also differ according to gender. In the survey, women most frequently named restaurants, cafés, and bars as the ideal location (58%). Men, on the other hand, think they have the best chances on the beach (52 percent).

However, crude pick-up lines are out: Almost all respondents (98 percent) said they didn’t have a shtick and just flirted away. Dating apps such as Tinder, Lovoo, or Badoo are no help either: only four percent of men and women use them on vacation.

But can a brief fling on holiday turn into something more? The sobering realization is probably not. According to the survey, probably not. Most vacation flirtations end in a friendship (27 percent). One in four ends up on a date (24 percent). And one in ten (10 percent) even end up having a one-night stand. And for very few, it did actually turn into true love. Three percent stated that a holiday fling ended in a wedding.
