Objectively speaking, certain places are more or less suitable for a solo trip than others. A wide range of cultural activities, for example, means that you can find something meaningful to do as a solo traveler. But the opportunity to eat out relatively cheaply can also be an argument in favor of a destination. A recent report shows these and other values for cities around the world. In summary, a very well-known German city came out on top.
Behind this analysis are the booking portal Kayak and the online reservation platform OpenTable. Their ranking to find the best city for solo travelers was determined using various evaluation criteria collected from January 1 to June 30 of this year, for travel dates ranging from January 7 to November 30. The ranking took into account several factors, including the number of museums, theaters, as well as concert halls at 25 international destinations, as well as search queries for overnight stays, average hotel ratings by solo travelers, and prices for single hotel stays and meals. Perhaps you can already guess which German metropolis came out on top. It is: Berlin!
Overview
The best city for solo travelers is Berlin
Berlin, the German capital, is a cultural hub as well as a vibrant party metropolis. It is not without reason that Berlin has a high number of search queries for overnight stays. The good result was also influenced by the relatively low average prices for meals (approximately 28.04 euros) and hotel stays (151.98 euros).
Berlin’s ranking is quite remarkable. After all, the assessment by the companies based in San Francisco and Connecticut also included travel costs from the USA. In this evaluation criterion, Berlin scored unfavorably with an average flight price of around 945 euros. The other compelling factors seem to have carried even more weight in the ranking. As a side note, Kayak and OpenTable recommend trying local delicacies such as curry wurst, kebab, and schnitzel.

Canada was featured three times among the best cities for solo travelers
The Canadian city of Vancouver just missed out on first place. The picturesque harbor city of Vancouver in British Columbia boasts the highest average hotel ratings among all the surveyed destinations. In third place is Montréal, where solo travelers should definitely eat poutine (chips with gravy and cheese) and bagels. In seventh place is the streetscape of Toronto, which is often used as a film set.
Canada is a place of longing for many people, and is even considered the most popular country among those looking to emigrate – but it is notoriously expensive. Given that the ranking also considered prices, the prominent positions of Canadian cities may come as a pleasant surprise. However, for travelers from the USA, flights to and from Canada are significantly more affordable than those to Europe, which has accordingly influenced the results.
