1. The Resort Town of Paphos – Beaches and Culture

In the southwest of Cyprus lies the charming resort town of Paphos. There are several reasons why Paphos appears on our list of the most beautiful attractions in Cyprus. The coastal city offers not only stunning beaches but also a wealth of culture. There are numerous archaeological excavations to see here, including Roman mosaics and the Tombs of the Kings of Nea Paphos. This is one reason why the city was even the European Capital of Culture in 2017.
Our tip: The beaches Venus Beach and St. George Beach.
2. The Troodos Mountains – with Dreamy Hiking Trails

The mountain village of Lefkara is shown in the photo and is located in the middle of the Troodos Mountains. During a hike through the area, the small village is perfect for a stopover. Especially in the winter months, Cyprus is a popular destination for those drawn to the mountains. Mountain biking and trekking enthusiasts will also find plenty to enjoy here. The mountains in the central hinterland of the island offer various routes with different levels of difficulty. In the midst of the landscape stands Mount Olympus, which at 2,000 meters is the highest point of the range. One of the most beautiful attractions in Cyprus!
Our tip: In addition to the village of Lefkara, the village of Moutoullas is also worth seeing. No matter which mountain village you choose for a stopover, be sure to check out the churches and monasteries!
3. The Akamas Peninsula – A Natural Paradise

The breathtaking flora and fauna of the Akamas Peninsula are located in the west of Cyprus. Fortunately, the natural paradise of the national park is strictly protected. Lara Beach is located in the middle of this nature reserve and is not easy to reach. The roads are unpaved, but the journey is worth it. The bay is still a real insider tip and absolutely worth seeing. The natural beach is also a popular spot for turtles. Every year, at least the female turtles head to the beach to lay their eggs.
Our tip: The Fontana Amorosa bay is also a great destination and is usually still lonely and deserted. Thus, it is not only one of the most beautiful attractions but also a real insider tip among the beaches in Cyprus.
4. The Town of Agia Napa – The Complete Package

The perfect mix of beach, bars, and nightclubs can be found in the popular resort town of Agia Napa. It is located on the east coast of Cyprus and has everything a vacationer’s heart desires in abundance. Sun-seekers will find 14 beaches close together here. The water is crystal clear, and snorkeling is especially fun due to the many rocks.
Our tip: The Ayia Napa Water World water park is only open during the peak season months and should be visited if possible. Agia Napa also has a medieval monastery, which is a lovely excursion destination all year round.
5. The Village of Omodos – Typical Cyprus

The mountain village of Omodos, surrounded by vineyards, sits high up in the rocks of Cyprus. Right from the start, the typically Greek architecture of the village catches the eye. The narrow, winding alleys and the whitewashed houses with blue or red elements ideally help to distance oneself from everyday stress. Although everything seems far away here, it is only 15 kilometers from Omodos to the coast.
Our tip: The history of the mountain village dates back to the Middle Ages. A remnant of this time is the historic center of the village. There is also a monastery here that should definitely be visited.
6. The Mountain Village of Lofou – An Insider Tip

There are mountain villages in Cyprus that can hardly escape visitors during the high season. Fortunately, this charming village is not yet one of them. The small Lofou scores similarly to the village of Omodos with typically Greek alleys and cozy houses. There are also numerous taverns, cafes, and even a small museum. Here, you can trace the history of olive oil. The village is surrounded by stunning nature, and numerous hiking trails invite you to explore them.
Our tip: The best place for hungry stomachs is the Lofou Taverne restaurant. It is always busy, so it is advisable to make a reservation in advance.

The Best Time to Visit Cyprus
While summer temperatures average 33 degrees Celsius and the sun’s intensity is similar to that of North Africa, making it a sure bet for sunburn, autumn is much more pleasant. This is despite the sometimes strong winds on the coast. The weather in Cyprus is particularly good in October, with daytime temperatures around 26 degrees Celsius. Thanks to the water temperature of about 25 degrees Celsius on average, a beach vacation in Paphos, Ayia Napa, or Limassol is enjoyable even in the fall, especially since you don’t have to share the beaches with crowds of tourists. With only five average rainy days, showers and thunderstorms are rare in Cyprus in October.
For the weather in Cyprus, there is a rule of thumb for vacationers: The west coast is always cooler with its constant wind than the east coast facing Syria. For surfers, there are beautiful bays on the southwest coast between Paphos and Limassol. The lovely beaches in Ayia Napa on the southeast coast are noticeably hotter than in Paphos.
