The days are getting shorter, the temperatures are dropping – fall is here. For many, now is the perfect time for a city break. Whether it’s charming old towns, picturesque landscapes, or cozy cafés – fall offers numerous destinations with a cozy atmosphere. To mark the cozy season, travel provider Riviera Travel has developed a “coziness index” and compiled a list of the coziest travel destinations for fall.

Ljubljana is the coziest destination for a trip in fall

The “coziness index” is based on the average fall temperatures, the average number of fall rainy days, the number of cafés, and the number of scenic attractions. Each area was assigned a weighting that reflected its importance for a cozy stay.

Optimal fall temperatures are weighted at 40 percent, with preference given to cities with average temperatures between 10 degrees Celsius and 20 degrees Celsius. The number of dry days is weighted at 30 percent, as more dry days make outdoor exploration easier. Sights and cafés are weighted at 20 percent and 10 percent, respectively.

With a comfort index of 67.2, Slovenia’s capital, Ljubljana, comes in first place. The city is known for its cobbled streets, charming bridges, and beautiful nature. In total, travelers can choose between 75 cafés and 61 scenic attractions. Tivoli Park, in particular, is a must-see for anyone visiting the city in the fall.

The 2nd and the 3rd place among the coziest fall destinations

Zurich takes second place in the list of the coziest fall destinations with a score of 64.7 points. Above all, the 34 agricultural attractions, including Zurich’s Chinese Garden, invite you to take a fall stroll in picturesque surroundings. In addition, the average temperature in Zurich in the fall is 12.25 degrees Celsius, and there are only around 8.25 rainy days in the Swiss metropolis at this time of year.

Third place goes to Prague, which, with its impressive 369 cafés and 117 agricultural attractions, invites you to spend cozy fall days. Overall, the Czech capital achieved a score of 64.1.

The majority of cities that are particularly suitable as cozy travel destinations for fall are located in Europe. Unfortunately, Germany is not represented, but fortunately, our neighboring countries, Switzerland and the Czech Republic, are not too far away.
