“The Fury 325” is the name of the gigacoaster at Carowinds amusement park in Charlotte (North Carolina), which is almost 328 feet high and reaches speeds of up to 93 mph. A video now shows the adrenaline rush a ride can bring.
Roller coasters are not for the faint-hearted anyway. After all, it’s all about giving passengers a maximum adrenaline rush in the shortest possible time, the “ultimate kick,” “pure thrills.” This inevitably leads to amusement park operators regularly outdoing each other in terms of heights, speeds, and loops since the first roller coasters were built in the 19th century. After all, almost every operator wants to be able to claim that their coaster has set some kind of record.
At Carowinds amusement park in Charlotte, North Carolina, “The Fury 325” is opening this spring. It is possibly the highest and fastest of the so-called gigacoasters. According to “Coaster-Junkies.de,” the category represents “the second highest level of roller coasters.” Minimum height: 91 meters. Only teracoasters are even higher with a minimum height of 120 meters.
Shortly before opening, the theme park has now published a video of a test ride. Within a very short time, the almost two-minute clip reached millions of views on YouTube. That alone is a record-breaking achievement. However, the figures for “Fury 325” are also impressive in other respects, with “325” standing for two things. The ride time is approximately 3 minutes and 25 seconds, and the height is 325 feet (approximately 99 meters). The latter is a new record for gigacoasters, as is the speed, which reaches up to 152 km/h.
Right at the beginning of the 6,600-foot-long roller coaster track, passengers reach the record height. Then, as you see impressively in the video above, the ride descends steeply at a gradient of 81 degrees before reaching maximum speed a little later in the “High-Speed S-Curve.”
According to the theme park, the roller coaster will be able to transport around 1470 people in one hour. The roller coaster will offer a total of three trains, each offering space for up to 32 people.

“The same aggressive energy of an angry hornet”
The operators of Carowinds compare “The Fury 325” with a hornet, which has a special significance in Charlotte. British troops encountered particularly combative inhabitants during the American War of Independence. This is why the city was nicknamed the “Hornet’s Nest of the Rebellion.” The local basketball team, the Charlotte Hornets, also traces it name back to this.
The theme park website also states: “Fury 325 embodies the same aggressive energy of an angry hornet that won’t let up.” However, it could have been formulated in a slightly less combative way.
